Xenoaesthetics
lecture series
How do we approach architecture when our encounters with it do not define it? This lecture series reads Gonzalo Vaíllo’s Xenoaesthetics: A Posthumanist Approach to Architectural Encounter (Bloomsbury, 2026) from start to finish. Thirteen lectures follow the book’s structure: three on the Introduction, one for each of the nine chapters, and one on the Conclusion. The series works between Object-Oriented Ontology and architectural theory and practice, with Enric Miralles as a central reference. Its themes are the architectural project as an autonomous object, aesthetic experience, designing, inhabiting, and the question of equality. The lectures were recorded in the seminar “Hybride Prozesse – Xenoaesthetics” at the Institute of Experimental Architecture, University of Innsbruck, in the winter semester 2026/27.
