Gonzalo Vaíllo

principal founder

Gonzalo Vaíllo is an architect and researcher registered in Austria and Spain, and the founding principal of the studio MORPHtopia. He holds a doctorate in architecture from the University of Innsbruck and the Polytechnic University of Madrid (international cotutelle, 2022), a postgraduate degree in Experimental Architecture from the University of Applied Arts Vienna (2014), and a degree in Architecture from the University of Alcalá, Spain (2010). He is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Experimental Architecture – Building Design and Construction at the University of Innsbruck. He has taught internationally as a visiting professor at Texas A&M University (2020) and as a lecturer at the University of Applied Arts Vienna (2015 and 2023). Before establishing MORPHtopia in 2017, he served as Design Director at Wolfgang Tschapeller ZT GmbH (2010–2018).  Gonzalo’s work bridges practice, research, and theory, exploring the intersections of aesthetics, technology, and philosophy. His current focus investigates a design theory and methodology of the unknown potential of multi-agential objects as design material. His projects have been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, the Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism, and the Vienna Design Week. His writings have appeared in journals and conferences on philosophy, critical theory, and digital computation. He is the author of the book Xenoaesthetics (Bloomsbury, 2026), which proposes a new theoretical framework for architectural encounter through posthumanist thought.
